Sundari (2023) – Bollywood Movie

Attempting a dark comedy is no cakewalk, as it requires striking the perfect balance between humour and darkness. Although Aishwarya Rajesh’s Soppana Sundari tries to create some interesting yet quirky situations and moments that aim to create laughter, there’s something that prevents us from fully immersing ourselves in the world we witness. With more effective writing, this film could have been one of the best in Aishwarya’s career.

The film opens with Agalya (Aishwarya Rajesh), a girl from an economically disadvantaged family, winning a car worth Rs 10 lakh in a lucky draw. She is survived by an aged father, mother (Deepa), and a mute sister (Lakshmi Priyaa). However, trouble ensues when Agalya’s brother (Karunakaran), who has been estranged from the family, claims to be the actual winner of the lucky draw.

As Agalya contemplates ways to deal with her selfish brother and a lustful inspector handling the case, her mute sister Thenmozhi drops another bombshell. She informs Agalya that there is a dead body inside the trunk of the car.

The rest of the story centres around how Agalya tackles this complex situation and gets out of this mess despite all the financial issues.
